In just over a week’s time, we’ll be welcoming Memotone, the alias of self-taught multi-instrumentalist and composer, Will Yates. As well as visionary storytelling/DJ duo, Time is Away. It should be a really lovely evening. Hope you can join us.
About Memotone:
Memotone is a prolific composer and performer from the UK, who grew up in the woodlands of Wessex and now lives in Wales. His music explores themes grounded in environmentalism, psychogeography and the unreliable nature of perception. Calling on jazz, classical and folk genres, as well as modern production styles and electronics, he builds miniature worlds that Pitchfork call “…gently euphoric, whimsical, and bittersweet”. Memotone has released records with The Trilogy Tapes, Soda Gong, Sahko Recordings, Discrepent, Accidental Meetings, 12th Isle Patience/ Impatience, Folklore Tapes and many more.
About Time is Away:
Time is Away is the open-ended collaboration between artist Jack Rollo and historian Elaine Tierney. Their work spans radio, research, sound artworks and DJ sets/mixes. Residents on NTS since 2013, their monthly radio show combines music, spoken word and field recordings to make something that is part soundscape, part essay for the radio. Exploring themes of memory, persistence and resistance, using an assemblage of source material, the duo’s unique mode of storytelling has won them many fans. To date they have released two vinyl compilations, Ballads (Colourful Storm, 2022) and Searchlight Moonbeam (Efficient Space 2023).
